When can we have skype support again?

I keep hearing time and time again from my customers the woes of having to install skype because their customers cannot install an app or use Chrome or Firefox.

They are also not open to adding the federation in skype for Business.

I know this is not entirely in your hands, but the reason we loved Blue Jeans was its ability to Bridge Anything to Anything.

So we need regular skype integration - i liked the way it used to work

and

Skype for business without federation

( same question for Hangouts :P )

Ash from the ashes, he lives! I'm totally down with everything said here. Skype integration was one of the main reasons we took up BJN, and we'd still use Skype integration heavily if it were available. But now we put end-users, that are typically guests to our meetings outside of our organization, through some hoops to make things work, when they already have Skype ready to go in so many cases. I understand Microsoft pulling that when they were transitioning Skype for Business during the acquisition, but that's pretty much done with. My guess though...Microsoft will not go back. =(

Hi Ash!

We would need Microsoft to resurrect the old SkypeKit SDK in order to utilize the "buddy" integration that we had many moons ago.

Similarly, the Federation hoops are a Microsoft requirement. I've heard rumors that dialing <meetingid>.<passcode>@lync.bluejeans.com has worked without going through the Federation process, but I do not have an environment that isn't Federated to test that theory.

Did the external parties to your organization ever install our NPAPI browser plugin in the past? If so, it's essentially the same thing as the current Desktop App:
  1. The installer package is MSI based.
  2. Requires TCP 5061 & UDP 5000-5999 outbound to our IP ranges (for best quality).
  3. Super secure environments could scrape by using just TCP 443 (not recommended).
Lastly, what is Hangouts? ;-)

These types of organisations haven't been able to install anything in the past, they were pre deployed with webex and skype.

One day the world will the understand the need for open meeting protocols and leverage their products on user experience and product not Vendor-Lockin.

the fight continues...
