Tip: Use a mobile device to let you know when a meeting has "really" started

I often help new endpoints get online (especially internationally).

There can be a 30-45 minute delay between the scheduled start of the meeting and the time the other side can connect (even if they have been sent the test link).

I usually connect to the meeting with a mobile device and use that to monitor for when the other side is connected. Using a second device, I can go about my work on my main computer and not worry I'll miss the start of the meeting.  Once I hear the call is connected, I usually drop the mobile call and continue in the browser.

Another trick is to exchange SMS contact information so there is a back-channel until the visual channel is brought up.

Really like this idea Tom.

Suggestion to Blue Jeans: implement a dynamic favicon that shows how many people are in the room right now. Like Google does when you enable that Labs settings in Gmail:

Tom, good suggestion. Another feature I really like is the chat capability on the browser. Sometimes I find remote participants have local computer issues and they are not able to send or receive voice. In those cases, the chat feature comes very handy and you can guide remote participants through a couple of troubleshooting techniques.

@Tom - Great idea Tom, thank you for sharing!
@Zack - Thanks for sharing the dynamic favicon idea. I will pass that on to product now. Stay tuned.

Current Settings Workaround
One thing to note in meeting settings: We have the default to be "disable audible alerts" for the main reason that it is more annoying to hear the 'ping' every time a participant hops in and out. That is always an option for users if they want that.

Anyone else have any tips/tricks for meeting notification?
