We have a grants system that is a Windows-based application. The admins of the system are training remote users. There is an issue, however, that some of the windows are not appearing during the demo.

Scenario:
  • Start up the database.
  • Move between screens that appear active on Windows 7.
  • Select pop-up window for searching by grant name, for example.
  • Issue 1: Pop-up window does not appear in Blue Jeans screen sharing mode. Why?
  • Issue 2: Presenter did not know that the remote users could not see the pop-up window in the database.

Was looking through potential related screen sharing issues submitted and wondering if this might be the workaround for now:
  1. Once you have a meeting up and running!Open the start menu and type "Services"
  2. Click on Services at the top of the results
  3. Find and select "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager"
  4. At the top left hand corner of the Services window select "Restart" the service.

I will test but would appreciate knowing if others have seen this occur with any of their desktop apps in Windows or Macs and how you resolved.

I've tested again the screen sharing issue our staff experienced where particular types of windows do not appear. We tested on Mac and Windows with various browsers. The layered window did not appear when we performed Screen Sharing in Blue Jeans but it did appear when we ran Hangouts and she shared her screen. So there seems to be particular types of windows Blue Jeans is not able to display when screen sharing. Anyone else run into this? I have opened a support case as well.
Hi Karen -- thanks for contacting support, it looks like a bug report has been filed. I hope no one else is experiencing this, although sorry you are!

I heard from Blue Jeans about the screen sharing with layered windows that your reported:

In our Windows application, the screen being shared is considered a "layered window" and the current screen sharing implementation will not display a layered window on Windows 7. The reason they take this approach is so the video widget that displays an active participant while you are sharing your screen will not display as well -- see screen grab below:

Support indicated that layered windows are very uncommon in Windows applications, have not had a high incidence of this type, and do not plan to rewrite their current code to support on Windows 7. They also indicated that the layered issue is resolved in Windows 8.
