Room System Pairing + Content Sharing

Any chance there's a feature on the roadmap to be able to share content from the laptop used to pair a room system without having to plug in to the codec?

The TelyHD device has this ability using client software called TelyShare, but we primarily use Cisco codecs for room systems, so it would be a useful add-on that would allow us to untether the presenter's laptop.

We do this by joining the meeting and selecting " do not send audio/video" then just pressing the screen share option.

I'm talking about sharing content wirelessly over the internet from the laptop used to pair a room system. What you're describing is sharing content without actually being an audio/video participant, which would still require a cabled or AirMedia connection.

I'm asking that the BlueJeans bridge recognize the laptop I used to enter the pairing code when connecting via Room System as an associated device from which to share content. Currently the management controls are available in-meeting from that computer, but there are no sharing options unless you plug it into the codec.

Hopefully that made sense, I started to confuse myself writing it! Thanks for your reply.

understood, so i have been using two browsers on the same laptop to do this, i pair to the room system using chrome then i launch the bluejeans plugin in fire fox as a particpant and share the desktop over the internet using BlueJeans ;)

we tried using other wireless presentation tools like the AMX Enzo, barco clickshare and Crestron airmedia, but none work with linux ;)

I definitely agree that having the screen share ability from pairing to a room system would be beneficial and i have seen that raised as a feature request a while back.

Most likely you need to mute the video and audio from the browser you're connecting with on your laptop.  The output of one is going into the input of the other and causing the feedback.  Or when you connect as a participant on the laptop just opt not to send either.

Hi Shawn and Kevin,

When using the /share feature, the BlueJeans service will automatically mute three items:  the device's ( Mac or PC) speakers, the device's Mic and the camera.  All three icon's on your BlueJeans UI will appear in a solid red color.  This will prevent all echo from happening in your meeting.

This mode is considered "Connected in Content Share Mode" and will not send nor receive any video or audio while still allowing the user to share or receive content.  See screenshot below of what the /share feature should look like when adding to your meeting URL.  Example of /share URL https://bluejeans.com/meetingID/share

Now if you click on any of those red icons you will introduce your video and audio into the call.  The mic and the speakers icon when not muted (not appearing in red but in white) will introduce audio echo in the room where you are already on a call with BlueJeans.

Please let me know if this helps or if you have more questions

Thanks

I assumed by his post in context that Shawn was attempting Ash's workaround method rather than /share, which as you described, would be much more effective at accomplishing the desired effect.

You are right Kevin,

I wanted to outline the /share feature with a bit more detail to help provide another method to prevent the echo.

Thanks

Ah, I follow you now. Ok, that's a good idea for a workaround even though it occupies another port. Thanks.

I had the same question.  So is it confirmed that connecting in via https://bluejeans.com/meetingid/share will consume another port?  thanks!

That is correct Dawn, it consumes a port.

Let me know if you have any other questions

Thanks

Pairing and sharing is under review and being worked towards by the product team.

In the meantime, I would like you both to try the /share feature.   Its not a documented feature at this point but it will allow you to present content (without paring to the room systems) wirelessly or wired into your call without sending or receiving any video or audio.

From any laptop in the room simple add the /share behind your meeting ID URL -

example https://bluejeans.com/meetingID/share

All necessary audio, video and speakers will be muted and you will see a message on the left portion of the screen that will tell the users that they are connected in Content Mode Only".
However, the user can un-mute the devices if needed but be aware they may create unwanted echo into the call.

Think of this as a very quick way to share, while already in a call with a room system, from multiple laptops (presenters) in the same conference room.

Note: You do not need to be paired in order to use the /share feature

Please let me know if you have any other questions about this feature.

Thanks
