Muting Participants Upon Entry - Room Systems

I use Blue Jeans regularly, but I only held my first large meeting last week and to manage it, I had to mute all participants upon entry - my first time to enable this function. Normally participants will be able to unmute themselves, but I learned that those who are joining from room systems were not be able to do so. I as the moderator needed to unmute them from my panel so they can be heard.

I don't know if it was just a bug though. In any case, it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. What's important now is that I know that if I chose to mute participants upon entry, I should unmute those who are joining from room systems myself! :)

Hello Miyay,

It is possible for the folks connecting from the room system to unmute themselves. When they joined the meeting a banner would have appeared across the top of the screen stating that the moderator had muted them and that by pressing *4 from the room system keypad they can unmute themselves.

However, it is possible that they missed this banner while dialing in or if the room system was already connected to Blue Jeans prior to the attendees entering the room.

I have included a knowledge base article that lists all of the * menu options that are available from a room system.

Hope this helps!

Thank for joining Miyay!

Stuart is correct, I am just including shortcuts for * key to access BJN meeting control menu:

Need to mute your audio or video, or change layouts, and don't have access to the Blue Jeans Meeting Room web interface? You can access the Blue Jeans meeting control menu by pressing the star/asterisk (*) key:
  • From a Room System, use the keys on your remote control.
  • From a Telephone, just use the DTMF key pad (only options 4 and 8 are available from a phone)
  • This option is not available when using the Browser connection.
A blue menu panel will appear, letting you:
  1. Switch layouts (to either Active Speaker, Active Presence, or Constant Presence)
  2. Switch menu language to German (or back to English)
  3. Bring up meeting information
  4. Mute the Audio at your endpoint
  5. Mute the Video at your endpoint
  6. Hide the Overlay graphics (the BJN logo in upper right hand corner, and the name/icon bar at bottom of each participant)
  7. Add your own endpoint video to be seen by you, in the BJN meeting panel
  8. Mute all participants in the meeting, except yourself (you must be joined as the moderator)

Sounds great, thanks for the feedback! I'll be sure to tell them about the * key :)
