Lync Behavior When Presentation Sharing

Hi Folks,

Has anyone seen an issue with a Lync meeting when using the BJN bridge around problems content sharing?

Just conducting some testing using Lync 2013 (v 15.0.4701.1000) and noting some outcomes.
Video and Audio between the Lync client and a H323 system is fine, and the H323 can share a presentation using the VGA cable into the back of a device. The Lync client can share the desktop or an application perfectly well. However, if the Lync client tries to share a presentation (I.e. a PowerPoint directly) or a whiteboard, the call gets disconnected at BlueJeans, although Lync still thinks it is in a call. The same PPT works fine when sent via desktop sharing, although on our multi-room H323, it is in the 'video' stream rather than the content stream on the second monitor.

Is this the expected behaviour, or a bug with the Lync client? It looks like something in the way BJN handles H239, but it would be nice to know if others are seeing this?

Hi Nick,

Sorry for your issue. This is a known limitation when using Lync.

Please take a look at this knowledge base article:

Connecting Lync to a Blue Jeans meeting
  • PowerPoint sharing, whiteboard sharing, and polling are not supported. If a user attempts to use any of these features, they may drop from the BlueJeans meeting.
This is due to a limitation for MS Lync when federated.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the updated information - does anyone know how this behaviour could affect Lync Room Systems?  These are likely to be our room systems of choice in the future, but will be embracing BlueJeans to provide bridging to legacy systems, but want to know that they'll be able to push content to these older systems without the meeting crashing.

Hi Nick,

Yes there are some limitations with Lync Room Systems in regard to content sharing.

  • Support for Lync Room System (LRS) is limited with below caveats on content sharing:

    • When the LRS tries to share content, it initiates a Lync MCU call and the LRS drops from the Blue Jeans meeting.

    • When remote participants share content in Blue Jeans meeting, LRS doesn't receive the content.
