Editing a recording

One of our participants inadvertently stayed on a call for an additional 2 hours so we have a recording of his living room. Does anyone know how to download a recording so we can edit out those additional 2 hours? (Can't imagine he'd want everyone seeing the activities of his living room!)

Hi Victoria. Welcome to the Blue Jeans Community! To avoid sharing two hours of that living room footage, you can in fact download your recording.

Both Basic and Enhanced Recording users can download an MP4 file and share it with others through email or their file sharing system of choice.

To download: Open your meeting from the Recordings tab in your account. Once there you will see an option to download on the right-hand side.

To share: Enhanced Recording users can share meetings via link by copy/pasting or emailing it.  To see the hyperlink, sharing settings need to be set to “Open Access” or “Enterprise Access.” As long as the recording stays set to “Open Access,” anyone with the link can view it. If it’s set to “Enterprise Access,” viewers must log in to Blue Jeans before they are able to view the recording. Once the recording setting is changed to “Private” it can no longer be viewed via the hyperlink.

Hope this helps!

we would like to see this functionality to. At the moment we have to support people using avidmux and Handbreak to be able to edit the recordings after downloading. however we still have to support our Cisco DMS system with Show and Share which DOES allow users to edit recordings that they have streamed.  I am still trying to push for Blue Jeans to be our single tool for most of these use cases. we also want to auto publish the recorded video's to our Jive instance.

The two meetings we have recorded both had plenty of useless time before and after the meeting , so I needed to edit them before they were suitable for training purposes. I downloaded the file from BlueJeans, and used Microsoft Movie Maker to trim what I didn't want. Our recordings now start at the moment the presentation does (rather than 15 min. of people logging in and getting settled) and end at the conclusion of the presentation, giving us a great copy of company-wide presentations, for future training or review.

Thanks so much! I think my biggest challenge was finding the download button (it was completely hidden!).

Thank you Andrea!

@Ash - We have also shared your request to edit on our webapp with the product team. After that conversation we will mark this "under consideration" or "not planned" after this meeting.

@Victoria - Below are a few other screenshots. You can start and stop your recording to create "clips" and download them separately. This could help with your extended recording editing. see images below:

Keep the ideas flowing all!

Under the main recording of your meeting there should be a small "thumbnail" view of the recording. If you hover your mouse over it, two icons will show up - a download icon (arrow pointing down) and a garbage can. Click on the arrow to start your download :-)

Ash - If you don't see that or the download option and this was your meeting, we might need to open a support case to look into it. Please let me know if @Andrea's comment helped.

Thanks!

Hi All, I was wondering what software you would recommend for the video editing? I know they can all do it, but im just looking for something simple and cost effective (if not free) to edit the videos in minor ways.
Thanks!

I used Microsoft Movie Maker - which fits your wish list well!  ;-)

Camtasia is another strong choice, with versions for both Windows and Mac.

I use AVIDmux - its open source - and works really well for basic editing.

I am OLD, and I have never done any av editing, so it was a big learning curve yesterday. There were 2 minutes somewhere in the middle of a 2-hour recording that had to be edited out. My PC kept crashing on the download, so I logged on to BJ on my Mac and downloaded the file to the desktop. It took 4-Ever - over two hours to download. Then I watched some YouTubes to learn the basics of the iMovie tools. Deleted the 2 minutes and saved to the DTP. There were 3 size options - I chose the smallest - smart phone size, and it took over an hour to save. It was 787 megs - almost a gig of data. I uploaded it to a Google Drive and my webmaster put it on our website somewhere and sent me an emailable link. Hope I don't have to do it soon again.
Hi Carmen - sorry you're experiencing this! It sounds like faster internet speed will help?

This happened last week and is now ancient history. It also seems better suited to something short, not a 2-hour recording.
Thanks.

Both of my recordings were in the neighbourhood of an hour (after editing) and nothing took nearly that amount of time to process. Brittany might be on the right track.

*bump* I'm still getting requests to allow for basic trimming of recordings within the Blue Jeans playback space, at least that's what I think this thread was originally about. Then it morphed into off-line editing programs. We can do that, but as we just share a lot of these out to Public we'd love to just leave it in the system and just trim the ends, even some of the middles if we can. Basic trimming tools to me don't seem overwhelming of a request.

@ash - Did you have to convert to VBrick REV from Show and Share?
