BlueJeans on a LifeSize Unity system

We use BlueJeans extensively in our company, and frequently in conjunction with LifeSize room units. Some of our remote offices have the Unity desktop systems.

We're running into an issue about 80% of the time with this combination:

If someone in the BLueJeans meeting shares a presentation, the people using the Unity will see a flash of the presentation, and then just a blank screen. Other endpoints (browser users) can see the presentation fine. You can cycle through the view options, and keep seeing a blank box instead of a presentation.

Has anyone run into this? It's become very frustrating for our smaller offices.

@Susannah - Thanks for your question. Please try the below and if not, we will need to open a support case for you.

This issue most likely was caused by firewall rule in remote office, they can either use static NA between public IP address and private in remote office, then open wider port range allowing content going through; or just open wider UDP port range for dynamic mapping  to allow content through if static mapping is not an option
  1. Your Enterprise firewall(s) do not allow outbound video calling for H.323. Blue Jeans Network uses the following TCP and UDP ports with the service:
  • TCP Port 1720 - H.225 Signaling for H.323
  • TCP Ports 5000-5999 - H.245 Call Control for H.323
  • UDP Ports 5000-5999 - RTP Media
  • Your Enterprise firewall(s) do not allow outbound video calling for SIP. Blue Jeans Network uses the following TCP and UDP ports with the service:
    • TCP Port 5060 - Signaling for SIP
    • TCP Port 5061 - Signaling for SIP (TLS)
    • UDP Ports 5000-5999 - RTP Media
    Thank you Susannah!

Finally heard back from the office (it was our Tokyo office, not Singapore). There are no restrictions on any of the firewall ports mentioned. Any other ideas?

I have a bug open with lifesize in this in regard to sip calls. H323 (ip calls to BlueJeans ) work fine but the lifesize creates a presentation stream using tcp and blue jeans supports udp. I have work arounds if you can tell me your setup. Is it unity - clearsea - sip - BlueJeans. Unity - sip - BlueJeans or unity - ip - BlueJeans ?

@Susannah - Could you please let @Ash know your set up so he can help you solve this problem?

Thank you both! I am sure other customers using this set up can benefit from the resolution (or at least know its a Lifesize bug).

My apologies for the delay in response.

We currently have them set up Unity-IP-BlueJeans. We've disabled SIP because we found more problems using it than usefulness. What kind of workarounds have you found?

No Problem Susannah, so you "should" be able to goto : https://IP of unity/support/advanced_comm.php

find : " BFCP Transport is tcp" and click "Set UDP"

(if it is already set to UDP change it to TCP, i may have got my protocols the wrong way round)

that should resolve Presentations over SIP. feel free to let me know if it does not and i will update my Lifesize bug.

    thanks

So I can go to the direct IP of the system, and log in using my admin credentials. When I use the https://IP of unity/support/advanced_comm.php address, a pop-up asks me for admin credentials and will not accept them. Any ideas? I have looked through absolutely every menu in the system prefences looking for the UDP or BFCP settings and have not found them.

I'm hoping that fixed it. Made the change, and remoting into the LifeSize it worked. I've asked my guy in the remote office to test it when he's in the office tomorrow. Will post updates.

I'm curious, how did you figure this out? Extensive troubleshooting, or did one of the techs point you to it?

    thanks again!

We had the option added as part of a firmware upgrade from Lifesize, we worked on it with Blue Jeans techs and Lifesize Techs after we proved how the lifesize was trying to present over SIP.
