BlueJeans on Cisco DX80

Hi,

I am testing the Cisco DX80 with the bluejeans app from the playstore.

It sends audio and video just fine.

It receives video just fine.

However receiving audio sounds like you are speaking to Jean ( the parrot ), the remote end also hears the parrot when the remote party is speaking, i.e. they hear themselves parroted back, the same as the DX80 end.

Happy to do some testing with the BlueJeans folk on this :D

cheers

Hey Ash - sounds like engineering is set to order a DX80 and reply here soon - you should see something come through today from Shripad in our Bangalore office.

Fantastic, thanks, im just waiting for a HCS account so i can see if the Cisco call manager will make the call through SIP URI successfully.

Shripad, hasnt reached out to me yet ;)

I did manage to get a softphone installed on the DX80 and connect it to my own Sip gateway, and that works fine over the VP8 codec.

thanks
Let me track him down :)

Same thing happens for me, so it seems to be a general incompatibility.  All incoming audio is chipmunk'ed.  I tried over Ethernet and WiFi.  Also while connected the quality is reporting very low for these devices.  They're listed as "Mobile" and top send or receive resolution I can achieve is 640x360, if that.

It works fine if I dial into BlueJeans from Jabber using the SIP Trunk dial pattern created for video calls, but it would still be nice to see the app work.

It's a new device, so I'm learning to reel in my expectations though.  Let me know what the BlueJeans team finds out!

Not really the use case for our Android app (phone > 10 inch tab) , but we are totally wanting to work with you guys to fix this.  We will take a look at adjusting the app to better use large screen android devices in the not too far future.  Our engineer(s) will reach out via CSM to deliver some logging builds to help troubleshoot. .

I had ASSumed that if i could install it from the play store it would work ;) just like the apple store has limitations on certain apps for iphone/ipad/mac etc..

We got it working on the AOC though right?

Exactly.  Fixed for the AOC (thanks for reporting that) and we will do this too :-)  You should have gotten a test build already

We had successfully tested the test build for AOC and  the fix is now available in Android App  version 1.6.0.20 (scheduled to be GA today)

I'm just checking back in on this issue as I'm still getting "chipmunk" audio when using the BlueJeans app using either the DX80 or DX650.  Are you still working on a fix?

I am having this issue was well.  Any update on the Chipmunk issue?
Hi Robert - it's a known issue, but no updates.

You can try the Android way of avoiding the audio issue as Tedd said above.

It is a little upsetting that this has not been addressed by now ... I have 6 DX80's sitting on a shelf for almost 8 months now when we were told they were supported

They ARE supported, we just have a bug that is hard to squash.

We abondoned using the DX80 as we could see no reason for purchasing an overpriced rebranded AOC that still requires a massive Cisco CUCM infrastructure integration and didnt even work as a secondary monitor on linux.

Currently I am testing the Polycom Convene - which is working quite nicely.

I agree.  We are a full Cisco Collaboration shop, but the DX80 is a door stop at the moment.  I plan to fire it back up if the technology matures, but it's poor as a primary workstation using VMWare VDI and disruptive as a connected monitor.

I agree as well . However I believe that if we were told it was a supported platform BlueJeans should get it to work . Then we will have a use for them

Like I said above,

They ARE supported, we just have a bug that is hard to squash.
We had this fixed at one point but a media layer update affected the experience.
We are looking into this, but these types of fixes are not easy or fast.

Appreciate the response & understand some issues are hard to fix . However it has been over 6 months since I originally reported the issue & BlueJeans usage was the only reason we purchased them . It is hard to keep looking at them on a shelf after we paid allot for them

I totally get your frustration.   I have raised this to the engineering team to see what headway we are making.  Who is your CSM?

I am interested in a solution for the DX80 also.

Hi, I've the same problem with my DX80. Is there any advance with this 6 months old issue ? Cause the Ted solution is not working anymore, as the Cisco Jabber Video Service will be closed on November 2015 and is no longer accepting new users. Any other SIP Video App that works with BlueJeans and Cisco DX80 combination?

Update:  It looks like Cisco is not favorable to third party Android apps and is wishy washy about supporting third party apps (looking at some threads on the web), but we are acquiring a new unit (sent our eval back) and will have the team more look at possible solutions.  I know we have been working on this issue before and it tested well, but it looks like the last update to the firmware might have affected this.  We DO support the devices thru CUCM no problem, but that is not the end goal for you all :-)  Cisco limits us here, but we are working on it. I will keep you all updated.

Stay tuned.

I have 80+ DX80 across my organisation (K-12 education) connected via CUCM. I am looking at BlueJeans to:

1. provide 1-to-1 and 1-to-many VC sessions where users are connecting via a DX80 (CUCM) or a Google Hangout (enterprise)

2. enable a DX80 (CUCM) to invite and external party to a VC

Currently our DX80s are limited to internal VCs

Regards Paul

Hi Paul.  Although we'd all like to see the Android app work natively on the DX80, you shouldn't be limited to internal VCs.  Check out the guide attached to this thread - https://community.bluejeans.com/bluejeans/topics/cisco-sx10-registered-with-cucm-cube-only-setup

I'm not sure of your specific environment, but I have a trunk configured on CUCM through our CUBE Router (1911), that allows us to connect to BJN through a specific dial pattern.  So, for example, I could call 1000 to make a SIP video call to the BlueJeans splash screen.  This works for our c40 codecs and all DX Series devices.  I can even call from standard IP Phones for an audio-only connection, although I don't have the need to do so.

Hope that's helpful.

FYI, I tested the latest BlueJeans app (1.9) with the latest DX Series build (10.2.(4.99)) and the problem appears to be resolved.  The only issue that remains, which I never noticed before, is that if I pickup the handset on the DX650 (in an attempt to move the audio off the speakerphone), I'm disconnected from the call.  I suppose this is due to the Call app taking precedence over the media.  I wouldn't rank it as high priority.

Odd, I just received a DX 80 and it did not have an handset... Let me look into it

I have a DX80 and upgraded to the latest Blue Jeans client, but it sounds like I'm underwater when the "Welcome to BlueJeans" plays.

Make sure you also upgrade the DX80.  I did the client first, no change.  After installing the firmware 10-2-4-99 on the Cisco CM, all is well.

Correct, the fix is in the firmware.  For curious minds, below is the resolved Cisco Bug that appeared to have been in play...

Bug ID CSCuv18362: Some android application using audio playback has distorted audio.

Symptom:
Some android app that force none native audio format (none 48khz) and forcing mono channel causes audio distortion.
