Product:Cisco TelePresence SX20
Software version:TC6.3.4.8c3defb

As title says, when we connect to meetings, our h323:##.###.###.### Address is being showed instead of the System/Room Name.

I have confirmed all areas in the Cisco Configuration where this could be set has been done.

Hi Jared,

Do you have the system name filled in?

System Configuration > SystemUnit > Name

Or H323 ID?

System Configuration > H323 > H323Alias > ID

Note:  When H323 ID is used, system name gets overridden.

Hope this helps!

Thanks

 Hi Jared,

One question here, when you say "only system ip appears on screen", are you talking about the IP address of your SX20 or of your MCU? if it is registered to MCU.

An important point is, when making an H323 call, the display name that appears in the conference is the H323 ID configured on the endpoint/MCU and not the "system name" configured on them. So, if you want the "system name" to be showed as display name, you should set the H323 ID to match your "system name".

I hope this help.

Thanks.

IP of the SX20, Both display names are identical... Would this have anything to do with the Software version of the Codec? We are running TC6.3.4.8c3defb  One of our other demo systems has a C90 on TC7.  It is correctly displaying the System/Display name.  Unfortunately our firewall doesnt play well with TC7 for the other demo sites, so we cant upgrade the codec version.

Does this help at all?

If you are seeing h323:<IP address> displayed for your room system, you are most likely using C40/ C60 / SX20 room system units and making a direct call to BlueJeans (without gatekeeper).

In this case, h323:<IP address> is an expected display name of the room system, even if you specify h323 ID or E164.This is an expected behavior due to the way these models send the display name.

Hi Radhika,

This is not true.  With the system name under system unit page set, it should show correctly.

Hi Jared,

I am using TC7+ version.  This may be the case of firmware causing the difference.

The funny thing is I got the similar experience when my SX20/80 connect direct to Cisco MCU showing H323:internal ip

Interesting, unfortunately we cant upgrade firmware due to issues with lack of support for our firewall configuration in future version the firmware

Your endpoint connection was made direct?  Or via H323 gateway?

Suggestion related to this:

It would really be nice to be able to change the name of an endpoint if you are the Moderator.

The reason why is that our VTC systems are portable, and it would be far nicer to change the name to something that would be better than the H.323 ID or System name.

If the moderator/participant pairs the endpoint with the meeting, then it will display the users name instead of the system name. The instructions for how to pair a room system with a Blue Jeans meeting can be found here.

The added benefits of pairing your room system with the meeting are:
  • The ability to participate in group chat.
  • You can share your screen directly from the paired computer, so no need to fumble around with VGA/HDMI cables etc.
  • If you are a moderator, then pairing gives you access to the full suite of moderator controls.

Hi Stuart,

Will attempt this and report back.  Would there be anyway to get it to display the room name without creating an account particular to that room?

Thanks,
Jared
